Some summery photos
I’m well aware that reading a thousand words of finely-crafted prose isn’t really what you want to read on the weekend (well, unless it’s smutty fan-fiction, then perhaps…) But that’s okay, because I didn’t want to write prose today; I just wanted to take photos, and share them with you!
Here are some pretty photos from a barbecue we had earlier today. Roses and sunsets… enjoy, and have a nice weekend!
(I was shooting up into the sunset, but I had no idea it would look that pretty!)
(I think I like this one. I love the colour/texture of the grass, but the clouds are a little too busy.)
(It was a bit of a surprise to find a little spider amongst the roses, but I think he’s rather pretty… and very green! Anyone know what species it is?)

Alternatively, if you're new here, you might want to find out more about me, the author. Or perhaps you want to hear a posh Brit rant on about anything and everything (podcasts), or you want to read something more serious?

June 14th, 2009 at 12:43 amLooking good Sebsta.
I particularly like the spider one, although I would not particularly like finding a green spider, as you may remember, I don’t do well with spiders.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:04 amI’ve never seen a green spider before… and I’ve seen a lot of spiders, what with living in an old house in the middle of no where and all! Perhaps it’s juvenile or something…
Thanks
June 14th, 2009 at 2:33 amI just found the weirdest black and brown, fuzzy spider-beast that looked like a 7-mm-long tarantula. I’d offer a picture, but I smashed it. Anyone have an idea what species it might have been?
In the Eastern US, I know there are a bunch of different brightly colored “garden spiders” (as I was taught to call them) who make their homes in gardens and dress to match the flowers. Pretty cute.
I’m not sure how similar spiders are from continent to continent, but that would be my guess.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:44 amI think I’ve seen TINY brightly-coloured spiders before, like… yellow and red ones.
Anyway, quickly, go and take a photo of its crushed, still-wriggling exoskeleton…
*cries*
June 14th, 2009 at 2:51 amLOVE the first picture. everything about it. Love love love it.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:36 amThe sky in both pictures is just incredible… the icy blues with the rosey pinks are lovely!
June 14th, 2009 at 5:09 am“I was shooting up into the sunset, but I had no idea it would look that pretty!” – are you paying yourself a compliment, mr seb?
p.s i love it!
June 14th, 2009 at 11:59 amp.p.s and i kinda miss your blog. i’m still deciding whether i miss you too.
Me too Hannah! It’s my favourite photo — for now, at least!
Brooke, it seems that we do pinks and blues very well here in Sussex, but not much else. I can usually be found whining about how spectacular sunsets look in other parts of the world, but… well… I like pinks and blues an awful lot. But it would be nice to get some greens and purples occasionally…
You’ll get through it, Stiletto! It’ll be rough, and you’ll get the shakes, the sweats — COLD TURKEY — but… you’ll get through it. And I’ll be there waiting for you!
I was paying myself a compliment; it doesn’t happen often
June 14th, 2009 at 1:45 pmI was a bit disappointed that there was no weirdo smutty sex scenes to go with the pics but I don´t mind since these were very good. Even the flowers. How can clouds possibly be too busy? Are you serious? The busier the better, me thinks.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:44 pmThat pink glow in the first one is beautiful!
Oooh, clouds! You’re right, though, that they are kind of a distraction so you don’t notice the lovely grass as much.
I’m not usually a big fan of spiders, but on that rose with the bit of spiderweb showing… it’s quite pretty. Very nice.
June 14th, 2009 at 6:46 pm“I think I like this one. I love the colour/texture of the grass, but the clouds are a little too busy.”
I think I love this one!! Clouds can never be too busy, they give the photo an certian je ne sais quoi…nice shots Sebastian.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:00 pmWell… I mean, it’s hardly a photo about a sunset, it’s more about the clouds, and the grass. There’s some orange on the horizon, but it’s very underwhelming. It’s an OK photo! I just don’t know if I like the overall balance of colour and tone in it… *shrugs expressively*
But thanks for the kind words, all three of you
June 14th, 2009 at 8:08 pm“What species”? You absolute fucking nerd.
I disagree about the grass photo. It’s the sky that I love, while the grass looks like something from The Sims….
I want your camera.
No actually that’s a lie. I want the Lumix G1. Badly.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:50 amWell, your comments are getting nicer. That’s progress, I guess, of sorts…
I have a photo with more grass in, which might better show how nice it looks. It does look a bit Sims’ish though, I agree
The G1 is nice, but not so great that anyone would up and change brand/system — it’s a good introduction to the realm of SLR photography though! (Or non-SLR — no one really knows what to call it…)
The Canon 450D that I use for all of my current work is so great though, and I got it for something like £340… really, one hell of a deal!
June 15th, 2009 at 1:25 amPink sky, I love it. I always wanna orange ones too sadly I can never get up that early in the morning.
June 15th, 2009 at 4:15 amstunning photos, just stunning!
June 15th, 2009 at 9:37 amTry the highly technical hand-in-front-of-the-screen method and see if you like the photo way better when you crop out like 1/2 the clouds. It makes them not so overbearing, but still very visually interesting! And then you have a neat-o panoramic photo. I love those.
June 15th, 2009 at 12:33 pmAll of the pictures are breathtaking, Sebastian. And the second picture, if I stare at it long enough I can see the clouds moving. I love it.
June 15th, 2009 at 6:07 pmI really like the busy clouds. The ADHD in me gets lost in them.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:18 pmyou have the best sky photos
June 16th, 2009 at 9:31 amI love that sunset shot. Judging by the luscious forest underneath, that’s one heck of a place for a picnic.
June 16th, 2009 at 3:47 pmGreat pictures man. Was the landscape taken with that 10-20 you were talking about? The rose reminds me of some I saw during my walk around the Mall this past weekend. Alas, I didn’t take any pictures of them.
June 17th, 2009 at 9:05 pmEep, I apologise for the very late response! It’s like that email you promise yourself you’ll respond to in the morning, but forget to, and then… never quite make it to replying. Bad Sebby.
Kevin – yep, shot at 10mm, so 15mm on my digital body. One day I’ll be able to afford the 13mm prime and strap it to my film camera and do some UBER WIDE ANGLE stuff. Or just get the new 5D… (Canon-talk, sorry
)
You know, it would be a great spot for a picnic. If you don’t mind grass seed in your sandwiches. It always amazes me that there are still bits of England which people haven’t seen or trampled since medieval times. We’re so insular now, so boring, so chained to our living rooms or PCs. All of that countryside, just begging to be explored!
Floreta — I have a bit of a ’secret process’ for clouds and diffuse light sources. I’m still refining it, but they are looking rather neat… Looking at the photo a week later, I think I actually quite like it. Especially with Melissa’s patented hand-crop technique.
