Our Berber guide stares at some very small camels, in the Sahara desert

For the last 12 months, I have been doing almost everything with a girl called Shannon. By “everything” I do mean everything. It started off with chatting, and then a few weeks later flirting, and then, as is the natural progression of such things, eloping. We followed that up with eating, travelling around Europe, drinking lots of alcohol, exercising, watching awful TV, and being caught by the police for a crime that we (arguably) didn’t commit. Then, of course, to…

Seb, up a Blue Ridge Mountain

It’s a long weekend here in America, thanks to Thanksgiving — but as I don’t have any friends or family to spend it with, I’m just lounging around, sunbathing, reading some Philip K. Dick, tidying the house, that kind of stuff. In earnest, I’m a bit bored, and a bit lonely too. I wouldn’t say that things haven’t gone to plan, but… well, it turns out that I’m not very good at making friends. Or, well, at least when those…

I passed my driving test! 18 hours of driving lessons over three days, and a test on the fourth morning — and bingo! Apparently the instructor was ‘very impressed’, and the only mistakes I made were a) not looking into a mirror once while coming off a roundabout (rotary, for you Americans), and b) I didn’t look in my left blind spot after driving away from the emergency stop. The pig you see above — that disgusting swine — is…

I’m back from San Francisco! Two days of being wined, dined and waited upon by Microsoft, followed by meetings with Google, Mozilla and BitTorrent, topped off with ONE WHOLE DAY of respite. After two 11-hour flights and hopping back and forth through eight time zones, I can safely say that six days is not long enough to take in everything San Francisco has to offer. I didn’t visit a single museum, nor walk along the Golden Gate Bridge. I bought…

Hello! You may have noticed a deluge of shorter blog posts over the past week. They’re not quite stream-of-consciousness, but they’re also not quite refined, finalised, percolated-into-the-crystal-goblet cogent ideas. Which is kind of apt really, because I’m just churning things over at the moment. Flitting specks of knowledge begin to form into ideas — and then spin away into the corners of my mind. They re-emerge a few days or weeks later — usually when I’m sitting on the toilet — and…

I’ve been busily working on some changes to this blog! Nothing ground-breaking, just… tweaks. First, I’ve cut down the sidebar a little. Now it links through to a few of my favourite tags (on religion, on sex and girls, on culture, etc.), and a handful of my favourite blog posts. Second, you can now buy photos from this blog! I’ve created a gallery with almost every photo in — and on select photos throughout the site, when you click on…
