Seb, up a Blue Ridge Mountain

It’s a long weekend here in America, thanks to Thanksgiving — but as I don’t have any friends or family to spend it with, I’m just lounging around, sunbathing, reading some Philip K. Dick, tidying the house, that kind of stuff. In earnest, I’m a bit bored, and a bit lonely too. I wouldn’t say that things haven’t gone to plan, but… well, it turns out that I’m not very good at making friends. Or, well, at least when those…

Asbury Park pink sunset

Almost through my first whole week of living alone! It’s very odd, cooking three hot meals per day instead of just one. I’ve done it before — at university — but that was six years ago! The atrophied muscles are returning to strength… but it’s still very challenging (especially in such a small space). I don’t have a whole lot to share as I’ve been working 8 to 5, but I do have this video, which I shot earlier today…

Who knew that living alone was so difficult… and yet so delightful? I’ve only been alone for three days, but I can already tell that I love it, if only for lack of distraction and the complete autonomy. Working from a sun room with seven windows (six facing the ocean) obviously helps matters enormously, though. Berlin is not an exciting city — but at the same time, you’d be hard stretched to find a city that’s nicer than Berlin — or indeed, a city with more modern history than fair Berlin. Berlin was completely leveled in World War 2 by the Allies, and for some 30 years after that it was split down the middle by ideological differences — and the Berlin Wall. Berlin was the front line of the Cold War, the Wall acting…

I ain’t dead! An American once scolded me for using “ain’t”, actually. The cheek of it. I had actually hoped to update this blog a couple of weeks ago, before it became a whole month since the last update, but I failed. Fortunately, that’s about the only thing that I’ve failed in recent history, so I guess that’s OK. Actually, I failed my 365 photography project — well, I failed to complete it. The undertaking itself was far from a…

I wanted to show you my beard before I hack it all off. I think I’ve talked about my hate for shaving many times, so I’ll spare you the rant again. Basically, I only really look after my beard if I have to leave the house — and that only really happens every couple of weeks at best. Anyway, this is just after showering. Sorry about having such a hugely red/bright ear — the sun really was quite bright (and…
